When Photographing your subject, take into account the shape and size of the object and decifer whether a vertical frame or horizontal frame would compliment the object best. The best rule is to keep verticals vertical and horizontals horizontal.

But you know that rules are sometimes meant to be broken. Ocassionally expirement with different ways of looking at your subject. This begins to get us into the discussion of “framing.”
