Photo Contest Rules
TERM
The 2011 Suffolk Photo Walk is a one-day event that begins May 14, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. and ends the same day at 12:00 noon Eastern Standard Time (EST). In case of inclement weather the walk will be held on weekend, Saturday, May 28, 2011. By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest.
PHOTOGRAPHER ELIGIBILITY
Photographers of any age are eligible. Eligibility is not limited to Suffolk residents.
SUBMISSIONS
You may submit only five (5) photos total. In addition to choosing the top photos, judges will also choose the top photos from the following categories:
- Landscape—images of the visible features of an area of land, including physical elements such as landforms, living elements of flora and fauna, abstract elements like lighting and weather conditions, and human elements like human activity and the built environment.
- Abstract—does not represent the subject in a literal way; communicates primarily through form, color, and curves rather than image detail.
- People—individuals from all walks of life are predominant in the scene
Photographs must have been shot by the entrant during the time frame of the walk as mentioned above.
Cropped photos are eligible in all categories. We do not accept digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos, except for minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment (including conversion to black and white) or the digital equivalents, which are acceptable for all categories. If our judges determine that a photographer has unnecessarily altered his or her photo, they reserve the right to disqualify it.
For a photo in which a person is recognizable, you must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian and provide it to Suffolk Photo Walk personnel upon request. You can download our release form here.
HOW TO SUBMIT A PHOTO
Please submit photographs through our web site at suffolkphotowalk.com/upload. We do not accept photographs submitted through the mail. Submit no more than a total of five (5) photographs.
High-quality scans of non-digital photographs are acceptable. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible. Complete a separate form for each photo submitted. Photographs must be in a .jpg format. Files submitted may not be larger than 5Mb.
By entering the contest, entrants grant the Suffolk Photo Walk a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, archival, scholarly and all other standard purposes. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible. The Suffolk Photo Walk will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses.
ENTRY DEADLINE
All entries must be received through the Suffolk Photo Walk web site by 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time on June 16, 2011.
JUDGING
Judging will be conducted by a panel of local judges. Decisions of the judges will be final.
PRIZES
The winning photos will be displayed at a gallery showing at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts at a date yet to be determined. They will also be displayed at the Plaid Turnip, 115 North Main Street, Suffolk, VA 23434, after the gallery. All photo walk participants will be notified via email and our Facebook page and/or website with details.
